Studer & Revox Issues

Studer A810

Nothing is absolutely perfect, and so wasn't my Studer A810. The fast forward and rewinding speed has dropped just too much always within the last third of the winding process, which after a while became quite annoying.
Re-adjustment of the tape tension force on the left hand sensor made my A810 to spool again almost as fast as per the specifications of Studer.

Studer A710 Cassette Deck

I've never found out what exactly makes the mechanical difference between Type II and IV cassette tapes (except a Type IV tape may be a bit stiffer). Unfortunately my Studer A710 cassette deck has damaged some of my expensive Type IV metal cassettes. Metal tapes just slipped out of the metallic guide slot that is fixed on the erase head.

Re-adjustment of the pressure of the left- and right-hand pinch roller has fixed the tape transport of the A710, and finally I can enjoy the great sound of my TDK MA-XG metal cassettes.

Studer A727 CD Player

The sound of the Studer A727 is widely regarded as being exceptional. It produces an amazing soundstage of all the subtle nuances a Compact Disk can get with great transparency and punch. Overall the A727 is a really neat piece of gear with a cult-like following, by virtue of its sound as well as fantastic design. It's a match for many of todays top-end CD players.

Revox B77 MK II High Speed

No need to waste many words, the B77 is a great semi-pro tape recorder. When properly aligned and calibrated its sound comes close to professional machines. Although its mechanical tape handling mechanism is rather simple compared to the handling of professional tape recorders, it is a wonderful recorder for a home studio. For many years the B77 was part of the pinnacle of the name Revox.

Revox B760 FM Tuner

The Revox B760 has the good feel of rock-solid professional equipment. To listen radio is one thing, to listen from a B760 completely another. After so many years since its introduction the Revox B760 is still among the very best Tuners one can get - thank you Mr. Studer.

For installation and setting up Access™ refer to the detailed Reel to Reel 2006 Installation & Setup Guide (PDF) or the Reel to Reel Help Center (.chm file).

Access 2007 Runtime or later Runtime versions
(Important: do not install Access Runtime if another Microsoft Access software version is installed on your computer.)

Access Runtime is free software that doesn't require a license. Download Access 2007 Runtime or a later Runtime version from the Microsoft or from "The Access Man's" website and install on your computer. You won't see any program shortcuts after the installation of Access Runtime, that means you can start Access Runtime only by a database application such as Reel to Reel 2006 ©. Copy "Reel to Reel 2006 V2007.accdb" and the help file "Reel to Reel 2006 Help.chm" into the same folder on your computer, and double-click the file "Reel to Reel 2006 V2007.accdb" to start using Reel to Reel 2006 © database with Access Runtime.

Access 2007, 2010, 2013, 2016 (licensed)

Should you use the licensed Access software please make sure you have the latest Microsoft Access or Office Professional Service Pack (SP)/Update installed on your computer. Copy "Reel to Reel 2006 V2007.accdb" and the help file "Reel to Reel 2006 Help.chm" into the same folder on your computer.
After installation of Microsoft ® Access™, make the settings in the Access™ Options dialog box as per the instructions in the Reel to Reel 2006 Installation & Setup Guide (PDF) or in the Reel to Reel Help Center (.chm file). Double-click the file "Reel to Reel 2006 V2007.accdb" to start using Reel to Reel 2006 © database.

Such preset information can later be comfortably selected from drop-down combo-boxes in the Record Archive, Open Reel and Audio Cassette Recording forms as well as in other dialog forms in order to (1) keep your data consistent and (2) save much time on typing. For details how to use the form User Settings refer to the Reel to Reel 2006 © Help Center (.chm-file), section 3.1 - User Settings. After you have entered user names, equipment, features and recording options, return to the Start Screen to use Reel to Reel 2006 ©. You may at any time change, add or remove data in "User Settings”.

Optional User Password

For setting up an optional user password you must open the Reel to Reel 2006 database in exclusive mode.

In the licensed Access software you can open a database in exclusive mode by choosing in the "File / Open" dialog the "Exclusive" option.
Access Runtime software, however, does not have a user interface and menu by which you could open the database in exclusive mode. To open the database with Access Runtime in exclusive mode you can use a command-line switch in Windows "execute".

Detailed instructions how to open Reel to Reel 2006 in exclusive mode with the licensed Access software and with the free Access Runtime software you will find in the Reel to Reel 2006 Installation & Setup Guide (PDF) and in the Reel to Reel 2006 Help Center (.chm file).
